Art versus decor:  We spend more time at the office than at home.
Why are all offices decorated the same?
Instead of a painting simply
serving as the final touch in the interior design scheme, Michaell
Magrutsche’s pieces catch your eye, engage you, and enhance the
feel of the room.
Michaell specializes in strong, colorful,
uplifting art, perfectly suited for all spaces.
With his unique
organic shapes, Michaell’s paintings are interactive, inviting the
viewer to attempt to perceive images in varying dimensions between
concrete and abstract. Michaell
also works on commission and
is prepared to work closely with the interior designer/architect
to achieve the optimum synergy.

The Newport Beach Centennial Commission

Is Pleased To Present The Works Of

Artist Michaell Magrutsche

Contemporary Art For Small Spaces

Today’s contemporary art pieces are mostly made for over-sized wall spaces and measure 50” by 70” and larger.  The common perception is that the canvas must be big in order to have the desired “contemporary art“ effect.  Since the majority of people do not have the necessary wall space to hang large pieces, Michaell took on the challenge to create art to fit smaller spaces and smaller budgets.

“I have created a number paintings, each with its own series, which provide the feeling of powerful contemporary art pieces, yet on a smaller scale.  Instead of simply serving as ‘filler,’ these pieces catch your eye, engage you, and enhance the feel of the room.

Exploring The Liminal:  With his unique organic shapes and colors, Michaell’s primary inspiration is exploring the liminal – the space in between abstract and concrete.  Typically, viewers are captured by the colors of Michaell’s paintings, and then attempt to perceive either a concrete or an abstract image.

About The Artist: Michaell Magrutsche was born in Vienna, Austria and grew up surrounded by the art and beauty of Europe.  Michaell was exposed to Modern Art at an early age.  Growing up in his home with its collection of art by his uncle, the famous Austrian painter Adolf Frohner, and meeting his uncle’s peers (i.e., Wolfgang Hutter, Arik Brauer, Ernst Fuchs, etc.) taught aroused in Michaell the power of Abstract.

Being an Artist: “As long as I can remember, I have been involved with art in one form or another: from being a disc jockey to producing fashion shows, to international TV production/ directing, to screenwriting, and to creating music and paintings.  I enjoy the on-going process of becoming aware of how art touches me.  Art forces me to focus on what's ‘more real,’ not unlike beauty and nature."

My Process - The Story Behind My Pictures:  “I try to leave my personal life behind or at the psychiatrist’s office.  A clear mind allows me to only transfer my pure, creative inspirations onto canvas.”  “I don’t have to look inside to find my pictures.  Over the years, I have learned to be patient and open up to my creativity, allowing my pictures to bubble to the surface.  Sometimes I start a project and it may take 7 years to complete, such as my painting ‘Life.’  I usually paint two or more pictures at a time to keep the creative flow uninterrupted.”

This press release has been created for the purpose of informing the general public of Michaell’s scheduled art exhibition “Exploring The Liminal – The Space In Between Abstract & Concrete” from July 4 to August 1, 2006 at the Sandstone Gallery, www.sandstonegallery.com, 384-A  N.   MICHAELL'S UPBEAT ABSTRACTS

Why Upbeat Abstracts?  Like most artists, the question of "What is art?" was continuously on Michaell Magrutsche's mind.  Finally, Michaell arrived at a definition that made the most sense to him.  "Art is what inspires," meaning uplifting and upbeat.  A year ago, Michaell's wife, Londonn, was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Through creating his art, Michaell was able to cope with his wife's subsequent surgery and the following treatment validating his definition of art being uplifting.

Michaell was born in Vienna, Austria and has been influenced by the art and beauty of European Abstract painters.  Michaell moved to Southern California approximately 20 years ago and began painting in 1994. This art exhibit demonstrates Michaell's ability to capture the power of juxtaposition of colors and shapes.

Jana Barbier, Cultural Arts/Grants Coordinator of the City of Newport Beach said: "These Modern Retros are delightful!"

This press release has been created for the purpose of informing the general public of the scheduled art exhibition Michaell's Upbeat Abstracts between January 9 and March 31 at the Newport Beach Central Library
